If you are looking to buy an
electric hand dryer but feel a little overwhelmed by the number of options available, our top 6 best hand dryers of 2021 should be helpful!
‘Best’ is a subjective term as ‘what is best for you’ will depend on your budget, the location, the number of people that will use the products and your priorities. That said the following list is broad enough for you to consider in relation to the needs of your own facilities.
1. Dyson wash and dry tap
Before I go on, the
Dyson wash and dry tap is not going to be for everyone! They are in excess of £1000 + vat and of course need one for every wash basin so the cost can really mount up. That said, the logic of using the sink as a drainage for excess water from the hand dryer and combining washing with drying makes a huge amount of sense. No more wet floors, no water catchment trays to enter and more space created. We can see that one day this type of system will become the norm. Its fast, convenient, user friendly and copes well under constant heavy use.
2. Dryflow Vapordri
Hand dryers and paper towels have one inherent problem, excess water. With a ‘hands under’ dryer, an amount of water ends up on the floor. This is not normally a huge problem as most washrooms have non-slip floors but it still creates a cleaning and image issue. Hands in dryers attempted to overcome this by draining into a water catchment tray, however these trays require regular emptying to remain sanitary.
The Dryflow Vapordri drains water but then evaporates it, so there is no regular service requirement. The Vapordri is elegant, sleek, very fast drying, energy efficient, hygienic and not silly money, about 2/3 of the price of a Dyson Ab14 with added features and comparable performance. It can also cope with heavy use. I
3. Mitsubishi SMART
The Mitsubishi SMART is still relatively unknown. Its Mitsubishi’s hands under offering. Their older hands in models have probably not helped popularise them in the hand dryer market as although they don’t break the performance seems well under a Dyson. The newer models on the other hand match up well against Dyson, have added benefits and are far more competitively priced. The
Mitsubishi SMART is the choice of Oxford, Cambridge, Newcastle and Bath University, the London Stock exchange, KPMG etc etc. The reason why the SMART is on the list is that 1. Mitsubishi products just don’t break down. 2. It is engineered to not transfer noise to other rooms. 3. It ticks the performance, energy efficiency and hygiene boxes. At around £300-£350+ vat its about half the price of a Dyson V and does the job just as well.
4. Ecodri Uni-blade
The
Ecodri Uni-blade is a very low cost, high speed, energy efficient hand dryer. Its not got the same build quality or lifespan of the hand dryers above but if it’s going to be fitted in a low to normal use washroom and you have a small budget, it’s a great little dryer. At around £80 you can't go wrong.
5. Ecoforce
You are probably familiar with the
Airforce hand dryer, which has been installed in just about every chain pub or restaurant over the last 15 years. Well the
Ecoforce is a very similar dryer in appearance and drying style but a little bit quieter, with a lightly heated but powerful airflow (rather than unheated) and it’s about half the price. A great dryer for regular environments, its reliable, enjoyable to use, not too noisy but still fast and low cost to run. At just over £150 + vat and a 3 year warranty, it represents great value for money
6. Ecowave
The slimline profile of a dryer is really important for single cubicle toilets, disabled washrooms and smaller washrooms. The depth off the wall of hand dryers has become more of a factor in design and we have seen orders radically increase for these types of dryer, as such we have included the
Ecowave in the list. The Ecowave is everything you come to expect in a modern dryer, fast, energy efficient, not too load and highly vandal resistance plus its only 10cm deep and looks like a product that should cost twice the price. At under £150 + vat its a great buy.
