Part of what makes the De’Longhi Pinguino so good is its simplicity. It is designed to be easy to set up and easy to operate – this makes it perfect for both commercial and domestic use. This post is meant to be a guide on setting up your De’Longhi Pinguino air conditioner, so you can start benefitting from it as soon as possible, along with a couple of dos and don’ts.
Unpackaging the DeLonghi Pinguino
The first step is to take it out of its packaging. This is a heavy item, and can be difficult to carry around – do not try to lift it out of the top of the packaging. Instead, with the unit on the ground, you should be able to lift the box up and over it, revealing the unit.
Then, using the grab handles on the side of the unit (making it much easier to maneuver), lift it from the base packaging. You can then roll it to wherever it needs to be (ideally near a window) on the installed wheels. At this point, it’s also worth checking that all of the parts are there and nothing is missing.
Setting up your Delonghi portable air conditioner
Make sure the air intake and outlet grills are not obstructed, then screw the hose adaptor onto the end of the exhaust hose if it’s not already fitted and attach it to the back of the appliance. Now connect the window outlet to the other end of the hose. The hose is highly flexible and can extend up to 1.2 metres, which means you should be able to find the ideal spot to place your unit.
Fitting the window bracket
This is probably the most complex step, but is still very easy to do. The needs to go out of the window, and the window bracket is meant to fill the gap created by the open window, ensuring the room is ‘air tight’ which is what makes the air conditioning work optimally. Simply open the window (horizontally or vertically depending on your window configuration) and place the bracket in the opening, then expand the bracket out so it fills the gap entirely. Tighten the screw to keep the bracket at the right size, then gently close the window to ‘seal’ the setup.
For casement windows simply forego the bracket as there is unlikely a safe way to use it.
And that’s it, that’s how install a Delonghi portable air conditioner.
Some operational tips
- Never cover the air intake and outlet grills as this will cause the unit to stop functioning properly and may damage it.
- Keep all the windows in the room closed and turn off all sources of heat (such as the radiators) – the air conditioner works by expelling warm air outside and creating a temperature-controlled environment inside. With the windows and doors open this is compromised.
- At the end of each season drain the excess water from the unit. You may need to do this more often depending on the humidity of the environment the unit is placed in. It is worth sporadically checking until you have calculated the frequency that this needs to happen. It is not advised that the unit is placed in a laundry room or a similarly humid environment.
