How to clean a Delonghi air conditioner

Delonghi Pinguino air conditioners are fantastic units, and are designed to be as maintenance free and simple as possible. They are, in the most part, a plug-in-and-play unit. However, a little maintenance goes a long way, and in this post we want to talk through the process of how to clean and maintain a Delonghi air conditioner.

Step 1 – Cleaning the outside

The first step is to power off the unit, and unplug it from the wall or power source.

Whether used in a commercial or domestic environment, the outside of your unit may pick up marks and muck over time and so will need a clean. This is a simple process thankfully. Simply use a mildly damp cloth to wipe down the outside of the unit until it’s clean, then dry it with a dry cloth. Never use petrol, alcohol or solvents on the outside of the unit.

Step 2 – Clean the air filter

To clean the filter on your Delonghi air conditioner it is a simple process to remove the guard from the back of the unit, once that’s done you can remove the mesh air filter. This mesh stops debris from entering your Delonghi air conditioner, and if it becomes clogged can force the unit to work harder than it has to which in turn may shorten the life span of it.

To clean this mesh, first use a vacuum cleaner to suck most of the fluff and debris off it. Then, in the kitchen sink immerse the mesh in warm water and rinse it through a number of times. There should be no need to use washing up liquid or similar – we are simply trying to remove loose debris. Then, place on the side and allow the mesh to dry fully before reinstalling it.

Step 3 – Drain the water

We have written a detailed blog post about this here. But in short, at the end of every season it is advised that you empty the water from the unit. To do this, simply remove the cap from the spout at the bottom of the unit and catch the water in a receptacle before pouring away.

And that’s all that’s needed to keep on top of maintaining your Delonghi portable air conditioner. If you need any more help, or are thinking about getting a Delonghi Pinguino then just call us on 0114 322 3663 or use the contact page here
